ANATHEMA Art Exhibit

When The Good and The Bad becomes a demarcation line between what is morally just or not, there are things that do not fall among the two territories. Many times, we are too timid to venture out among the gray areas. What more to set foot on the dark side. But unless we acknowledge the sordid aspects of our binary human nature, we will never become whole.

ANATHEMA exemplifies the things that are deemed too wayward in our prejudiced notions of the Ideal, of the Ethical. And because the sinister is depicted, ANATHEMA deviates from the orthodox conceptions of aesthetics. Art for the sake of beauty alone is a form of denial, an inability to realize one’s primordial fears. Thus, in this two-man show, moral and spiritual dilemmas are placed center stage to give light on the veracity of man’s dark possibilities.

ANATHEMA showcases figurative and representational artworks filled with occult images of the ethical taboos, moral decays, and profanities. Such eccentric views coupled with unconventional styles are proofs that this visual exhibit does not tread the path of mainstream Art.

ANATHEMA is pop surrealism in its purest element.

Dangerous. Disturbing. Visually palatable.

This is artistic radicalism.

Help Build the Kampingganon Elementary School Reading Center

Kampingganon Elementary School has 286 students, 10 classrooms and 11 teachers including the principal. This is also the site of Tsinelas Association's proposed reading center.

You can help build the reading center in the small barangay of Kampingganon in Bantayan Island by donating children's books to Tsinelas. You can leave the books at Sun.Star Daily P. del Rosario Street, Cebu City (please label package with TSINELAS or Insoy Ninal) or contact 09228243800.

If you're from Manila, please contact Yowee @ 0916-7970140 or leave her a private message at yohwee@gmail.com

This is a continuing project of Tsinelas Association, a non-profit organization that provides educational assistance to poor students in mountain and coastal barangays in Cebu. The first reading center was built in the mountain barangay of Colonia (Colonia Elementary School), Tuburan north of Cebu.

Tsinelas put up reading centers in these public schools because they do not have libraries. Students even lack textbooks. In some cases, teachers even have to place the books inside the cabinet (and lock it) for fear of being damaged due to overuse.

With your help, Tsinelas hopes to put up as many reading centers in public schools as possible. They also provide reading appreciation seminars.

Please help us spread the word.

For more information, please visit their website (still under construction).

Thank you very much! :)

HOW TO JOIN: Buy A Postcard, Pay It Forward

In our effort to unite artists, promote their artwork while at the same time serving our community, we would like to invite photo enthusiasts, photographers - both amateur and professional, to contribute their talent and skill for a cause. The entire proceeds of this project will go to Tsinelas Foundation, a non-profit organization which promotes literacy and assists poor students in poor barangays in Cebu.

If you are interested, we are giving you the venue to make a difference. Here's how:

1. Submit two (2) of your photos. Any subject will do as long they are original. Rest assured that you will be properly credited as the photographer. You will retain full ownership of your photos.

2. Each photo will be printed out into three (3) postcards, that's a total of six (6) postcards per photographer. Each postcard will be sold for P35.

3. One of your photos will be blown up and put up in an exhibit at The Outpost on September 5, 2009. After the event, the blown up photo will be given back to you.

4. You will have to pay a fee of P150 to shoulder the printing expenses.
Payment should be made on or before the deadline. Meeting place will be at Turtle's Nest, Gorordo Ave., Lahug. We will inform you of the payment schedule. It would be best to come personally so we could also meet and orient you about the project and Tsinelas Foundation.

5. Deadline of submission of photos will be on August 12, 2009.
You can submit your entries to beyondartssake@gmail.com on or before the deadline. Please include the following:

b) caption or short description of each photo
c) your contact number
d) your email address
e) website (if you have one)

Invitation to Click!

Greetings!

Beyond Art's Sake, a group of individuals promoting art for charity, invites you to be a part of our project: Buy a Postcard, Pay it Forward. This project aims to encourage your participation as photographers to raise fund for Tsinelas Foundation, a foundation dedicated to increasing literacy among children http://tsinelasdiaries.wordpress.com/about/.

We would like to ask you to share 2 of your photographs which we will print as postcards. You can share any of your photos, as the subject does not really matter provided that they are original. Of course, we will credit you as the photographer.
Your photo files will be printed out into three (3) postcard prints for each picture. One of which will be blown up and showcased in an exhibit at The Outpost. A fee of P150 is also required to shoulder the printing expenses.
The postcards will be sold for P35 each and the blown up photo will be given back to you, the entire proceeds will go to Tsinelas Foundation. The photo exhibit is on September 5th.

We are hoping for your positive response. Together, let us make a difference one step at a time and prove that Art, is indeed, not just for arts' sake.
